Chaparral
Global Locations
The chaparral is one of the rarest and most fragile biomes on earth. It is found in small patches on every continent, on the west coast of North and South America, on the coast of the Mediteranian, in South Africa, and on the southern coast of Australia.

Climate
The chaparral is extremely hot and dry, reaching 104 degrees F in the summer and cooling to around 50 degrees F in the winter. With such heat and dryness, fires are common, causing massive devestation on the chaparral.

Prominent Flora
Most of the plants in the chaparral are small shurbs, like poison oak, scurb oak, yucaa wiple, and other shrubs, small trees and cacti. The plants, like those in the desert, are adapted to the harsh climate of the chaparral, and can survive and thrive here when most other plants could not.

Prominent Fauna
Animals in the chaparral are also adapted to life there. Animals like the coyote, jackrabbit, alligator lizard, horned toad, honey bee and lady bug can all withstand the harsh climate of the chaparral.

Threats to the Chaparral
A large threat to the chaparral is global warming. The greater heat in the chaparral is causing more fires, which can be devestating, both to the chaparral and to nearby humans.
